Before you get your approval to run the service on a signal box, you need to find out about the local characteristics. After training as a general trainee signalman, dispatchers were always paired with a person skilled in the signal box. This chapter is the brief introduction to the area. Read it carefully. It contains very important information.
The text is "peer to peer" written as if you are in the signal box, the first day after training.
Have a more detailed look at the Bonn-Bad Godesberg panel here.
Signal Box Bonn-Bad Godesberg
Some data of the panel:
- 33 switches/points/turnouts
- 64 signals
- 103 track sections
- 39 km network length in total
- 145 possible routes (train, shunt, alternatives)
- 236 buttons on the panel
- 42x18 panel tiles (= 756 panel tiles)
- 7 level crossings(5 are of type Vollschranke = Full Barrier)
- Group buttons on the panel
- fleeting of signals are possible
- ZNP801
- Signal Brightness / Panel Brightness adjustable
- axle counters and axle counter reset button
New:
- Line Operations with with Bonn Hbf (after Update!)
- Line Operations with with Remagen
Neuer Weg
Neuer Weg is a little siding. You can use tracks 43 and 44 to take slow traffic aside, so that faster traffic can overtake there.
The right side is where our signal box connects to the station of Oberwinter (KOWI) and further towards the dispatching area of [[Dispatching in Remagen |Remagen (KRE)]]. The halt Rolandseck (KROL), that also belongs to Remagens' dispatching area, is located along the open line between Neuer Weg and Oberwinter. The level crossings at km 44.08 and km 44.311 have full barriers. You have to manually secure them with BüFT after the level crossing has closed.
Mehlem
Mehlem has three platform tracks, of which in general only track 31 and 32 are used. Only services of the SE 3500 and RB 7300 series to have their stops here.
Track 35 and 37 are out of service. That is why we permantly have the reminders on the panel
The level crossings at km 41.52 and km 40.30 have full barriers. You have to manually secure them with BüFT after the level crossing has closed.
Bad Godesberg Pbf
Only services of the SE 3500 and RB 7300 series have their stops at Bonn-Bad Godesberg Pbf.
The station Bonn-Bad Godesberg Pbf has four platform tracks, of which in general only track 21 and 22 are used. You can however make use of track 23 and 24 were needed.
The level crossing at km 38.615 has full barriers. You have to manually secure it with BüFT after the level crossing has closed.
Signal R101 (Halbregelabstand)
Signal R101 has a special function. As this main signal is located only 700 meters away from exit signal 21, the available braking distance is not sufficient for the allowed line speed of 160 km/h. If the signal would have been further back towards Godesberg Nord, the braking distance overthere would become to short. Additional to that it would mean that between the signal and switch 34, a reduced speed limit would have to be applied over a distance of 600 meters in case a route into track 24 is set. Therefore, there is a special signal in front of signal R101: the half-distance rule announcement-signal R101k. You can not operate this signal (no signal button), as it can not show the Stop aspect.
In this picture the rest state is shown. Main signal R101 shows Hp 0 (Stop). The signal R101k functions here as a distant signal repeater. The main signal R101k is operationally switched off, and thus showing the Kennlicht.
In this picture the situation is shown that an entrance route from signal R101 towards track 21 has been set. The main signal R101 is operationally switched off (Kennlicht), as is located only 700 meters from the next main signal N21. It just functions as a distant signal repeater. Signal R101k, located at braking distance from the exit signal N21, now shows Hp 1 (Proceed) and Vr 0 (Expect stop).
This picture shows the situation where a complete train route to pass through via track 21 has been set. Both signals R101 and R101k are showing the Proceed aspect (Hp 1). The white lamp of the distant signal at signal R101 is illuminated to show the driver that there is a short braking distance towards the next main signal.
The last picture shows the situation that an entrance route from signal R101 towards track 24 has been set. Signal R101 is now showing Hp 2 (reduced speed) + Vr 0 (expect stop). As the braking distance between this signal and N24 is long enough (due to the reduced speed), the distant signal will not show its white lamp. The signal R101k functions as distant signal repeater here, and the main signal has been operationally switched off (Kennlicht).
Bad Godesberg Nord
This yard is only used to put a freight train away or the turning around of the ICE trains in the morning.
Note that on the panel the yard is called "Bad Godesberg Gbf" (Gbf = freight yard). This is a legacy issue. The yard is now called Bonn-Bad Godesberg Nord (North) and is abbreviated KBBN.
