Is is likely that, between two signals, there is more than one route between them. When setting a route from a signal, the system attempts to find the ''''best'''' route possible. Typically, this means that the most direct path is chosen, when possible. The dispatcher has little control over which route is set - most of the time this is acceptable since the optimal route is used.
 
In rare cases it is necessary to choose one of the alternate routes. Choosing a specific alternate route is achieved using the Alternate Route Button (UFGT) button.

Once the switches have been thrown, and are in their end positions, press UFGT. Then, press the start and end signal buttons together. No switches will be thrown! If the alternate route exists and can otherwise be set, the rest of the route setting proceeds normally.
 
Obviously, this requires more work on the part of the dispatcher due to the manual throwing of switches. But, very indirect routes can chosen explicitly.
 
Revoking and other operations occur normally also.

Purpose
