Dispatching in Düsseldorf-Gerresheim

Before you get your approval to run the service on a signal box, you need to find out about the local characteristics. After training as a general trainee signalman, dispatchers were always paired with a person skilled in the signal box. This chapter is the brief introduction to the area. Read it carefully. It contains very important information.
The text is "peer to peer" written as if you are in the signal box, the first day after training.

Stellwerk Gerresheim
The signal box Düsseldorf-Gerresheim encompasses the station of Gerresheim as well as the junctions (Abzweigstellen) Fortuna, Dora und Hochdahl.
The station of Gerresheim is located along the line between Wuppertal and Düsseldorf. Traffic consists of S-Bahn as well as regional services. The regional services are routed to/from Wuppertal via the main line (Fernbahn), which is single track between Gerresheim and Wuppertal (Gruiten). It can become a bit exciting when trains are delayed on this line.
Our PSB is of type Sp Dr S 600, which means that some things, like some Group Buttons are operated differently compared to the Sp Dr S 60 system.

Neighbouring Dispatching Areas
Let's have a look at our neighbouring dispatchers:
Stellwerk Regiobahn
This is the non-electrified double track (operate FfrT !) of line 2423 to/from ettman Stadtwald (KME). This line is owned by Regiobahn. The responsible Fdl is located at the PSB of Regiobahn, operating an electronic dispatching system.
Stellwerk Gf (Bf Gruiten) (KGUI)
Here the double track S-Bahn line 2525 and the single track Fernbahn 2550 leave our dispatching area into the direction of Wuppertal. The first controlled location there is Abzw. Gruiten, controlled by PSB Gruiten. This PSB is remotely controlled from PSB Wuppertal-Vohwinkel (Kwv) but offering trains still has to be done to Gruiten (KGUI).
Stellwerk Rf (Bf Düsseldorf-Rath) (KDR)
This freight line 2421 leads towards Abzweig Hardt (KHAR). This junction is remotely controlled by the dispatcher of Düsseldorf-Rath.

Stellwerk Gf (Bf Düsseldorf-Grafenberg) (KDGR)
This freight line 2422 leads towards Anschluss Grafenberg (Graf).
Stellwerk Df (Düsseldorf Hbf) (KD)
Here the S-Bahn line 2525 continues towards Düsseldorf Hbf (KD).
The upper tracks belong to the Fernbahn (Main line) 2550 towards Düsseldorf Hbf (KD). The lower third track is part of the freight line 2404 towards Abzweig Rethel. Abzweig Rethel is remotely controlled by PSB Düsseldorf (Df). The shunt yard Rbf Derendorf (KDD) can be reached via this line.
Stations and Sidings
Let's have a more detailed look at our stations and sidings:
Hp Hochdahl-Millrath (KHOM)
The stop Hp Hochdahl-Millrath is located along the S-Bahn line 2525 to/from Wuppertal-Vohwinkel (via Gruiten). The stop has an island platform between the two S-Bahn tracks. The single track long-distance line (2550) between Abzw. Gruiten and Düsseldorf-Gerresheim just passes by here, so does not have a platform.
Hochdahl
Abzweigstelle (KHOL)
The remote controlled junction Abzweig Hochdahl is located along the tracks from Gruiten. Here the S-Bahn tracks and Ferngleis connect. As said before, the Fernbahn is single track to/from Wuppertal so in case of malfunctions etc or just when things are getting to busy, trains are diverted over the S-Bahn. At this junction trains can be routed to their normal tracks again.
Even though signaled wrong line operation (signalisierter Falschfahrbetrieb (SFB) ) is not foreseen on the S-Bahn track to Gruiten, there is a block signal (402) located near this junction. This is a peculiarity, which only exists to be able to service the connection Awanst Rönsch, which is located close to Abzweig Hochdahl. Trains from Awanst Rönsch have to move under special conditions as so-called Sperrfahrt (drive on sight and more). The presence of this block signal allows such trains to continu as normal train movement at this point, and thus not holding up other train movements any longer.
Ausweichanschlussstelle Rönsch (KHOW)
This connection can be reached via a so-called Schlüsselweiche (key locked switch). There is nothing happening overthere for years now, the tracks there are overgrown with shrubs.
Hp Hochdahl (KHO)
The S-Bahn stop Hp Hochdahl has an island platform. A level crossing is lcoated directly behind the station.
Hp Erkrath (KER)
The next S-Bahn stop is Erkrath. This stop also has an island platform.
Bf Gerresheim (KDGE)
The station of Gerresheim has 3 platform tracks. An outer platform is located along track 101, and an island platform is located between track 102 and 203. When a train has to stop at D-Gerresheim, it MUST come over the S-Bahn line from Düsseldorf Hbf (KD). Departures from platform tracks towards Düsseldorf Hbf are also only possible over the S-Bahn tracks. Trains from track 1 or 2 towards Wuppertal can only be routed over the S-Bahn. Trains from track 3 can be routed to the S-Bahn towards Wuppertal, the single track Fernbahn towards Wuppertal and towards Mettmann Stadtwald (KME). The trains of S-Bahn service S28 have there stops on track 3 for both directions. This means it can become pretty tight when trains are delayed.
The track 103 and 104 are just pass-through tracks of the Fernbahn towards Düsseldorf Hbf, so no platforms along those tracks. Below there are two more tracks for stabling trains (105 and 106).
The terminating tracks and other tracks only exist on the panel, outside all tracks are either overgrown or removed.
Hp Flingern (KDFL)
The stop Hp Flingern is located along the S-Bahn towards Düsseldorf Hbf. This stop also has an island platform.
Abzw. Fortuna (KFO)
This is junction (Abzweig) Fortuna. Here is the connection with freight line 2421 from Abzweig Hardt. Additionally, there are switches to let trains from Rethel change into the normal track.
Abzw. Dora (KDOA)
The junction (Abzweig) Dora is only connected to the track Gerresheim->Düsseldorf Hbf. Trains from Rethel will be left hand running here upto Abzweig Fortuna. The connection Anschluss Grafenberg (line 2422) can only be reached from Abzweig Rethel (line 2402).
