The switch chain mechanism is a system that staggers the throwing of switches when a route is being set. The purpose of this staggering is to limit the peak load; throwing many switches simultaneously would draw too much current.

The switch chain is disabled using the WSpT button together with the station button. Enabling the mechanism is achieved using the WESpT button together with the station button.

When the switch chain mechanism is disabled, the LK light becomes lit next to the WSpT and WESpT buttons.
