Start Scherm

The Start Screen is what you’ll normally see when you start the application. Here is where you can start a new simulation, load a saved simulation, or run a scenario.

The Settings menu is also available from this screen, and enables you to configure subsequent simulations.

Additionally, links to recent news items from www.signalSimulation.com are provided to keep you up‐todate with information about current and upcoming products. Clicking the ‘View in Browser’ button will open the selected news item using your computer’s default browser.

Selecting ‘Cancel’ will close the Start Screen. ‘Quit’ will close the entire application.

Laden Simulatie

When loading a saved simulation, you’ll be prompted to select the desired saved simulation file. Simulation files all have the .sim extension. The default folder for saving and loading simulations can be set from within the Settings dialog.

Start een Scenario

Scenarios are templates for new simulations that define a very specific set of starting conditions. They are useful for a variety of purposes, including the instruction of movement orders.

Be advised that simulations started from a scenario cannot be saved.

The scenarios are constructed using XML, and have many features which are not used in this version. More scenarios will be made available at www.signalsimulation.com.

A scenario SDK may be released in the future, so you’ll be able to construct, test, and share your own scenarios!

Instellingen

The settings allow you to set personal preferences to change, among other things, the difficulty level of the simulation. For new players, it’s easier to use the default settings to learn the basics, but for advanced players, it’s more fun to add some complexity and unpredictability.

Start Datum en Tijd

This is the day and time at which new simulations will begin. Setting the day to a Saturday, Sunday, or even a holiday will result in a different dispatching experience than if the simulation starts at 08:00 Monday morning!

Vertragingen

In a perfect world, all trains would arrive precisely on time. You can add real‐world messiness by increasing the chance that any train is late, by increasing Chance of Delays. The second control determines the Severity of Delays or lateness of trains. Not all trains will be late by the same amount, but the simulation will create delays that are mostly light, mostly heavy, or somewhere in between. For a crazy day, set Chance of Delays to 100%, and Severity of Delays to Heavy.

Gebeurtenissen

Engineering Works: Maintenance workers routinely take possession of tracks. For the dispatcher, this means coordinating with the workers to avoid accidents.

Switch Greasing: Switch greasers are maintenance workers who follow a schedule around the yard. They will periodically call the dispatcher to request that a particular switch be thrown, so they can apply lubricant. Increasing the chance of switch greasing will make for a busier dispatching session.

Chance of Poor Weather: Poor weather includes rain, snow, and fog. When these occur, trains tend to slow down as drivers cannot see as far as they normally can. When this happens, dispatching becomes more difficult, as you must wait longer for trains to get to where they need to go. Increasing this slider value not only increases the chance of poor weather, but also the severity.

Chance of Extra Trains: Extra trains are unscheduled trains that may arrive at any time. These trains each have the prefix ‘66’ added to their train number, so any train with an ID 66000 through 66999 is an extra train. The neighbouring dispatcher will call to announce the train.

Longer Station Dwelling: Trains, when stopped at a station, normally depart on time. Sometimes, however, the driver spills coffee on his lap and so the train does not leave the station according to the schedule.

Irregularities and Failures: This slider increases the chance that a train will suffer a defect, or that a catenary group will lose power. These defects are random, and as a dispatcher, you must be prepared to work around them.

Laden en Bewaren

Here, the default directory is defined when saving and loading simulations. By default, this directory is the located within the application data folder. It would be rare and unusual to have to change this directory.

Geluid

This is where the default sound volume can be changed. To fully mute the sound, check the Mute Sound checkbox. When pressing the Test button, you should here a bell sound. The sound volume can also be changed during the simulation by clicking the icon in the status bar. The simulation uses Microsoft DirectX to perform sound output. The associated sound assemblies (DLLs) are listed here for support purposes.

Opties voor Gevorderden

The expert options are options that allow the player to customise the simulation experience according to their own skill level. Ultimately, these options control the realism of the simulation.

Simulatie

Gebruik AI treindienstleider waar mogelijk

Als deze optie aan staat, worden treinen automatisch geleid in beheersgebieden.

Collega's geven een teken als treinen ergens onnodig wachten.

Als een trein stilstaat voor een sein, zullen uw collega's u toeroepen ter herinnering.

Pauzeer de simulatie als ik voor langere tijd weg ben

Als u deze optie aan zet, wordt de simulatie automatisch op "pauze" gezet als u voor langere tijd geen handelingen aan het tableau doet.

Toon gestopte treinen als u een simulatie start

Als u deze optie aan zet probeert de simulatie uit te vinden waar treinen in de simulatie zouden zijn, alsof u de simulatie eerder had gestart. Dit bootst de toestand na, alsof u een dienst overneemt.

Toon dienstovergave venster bij start van simulatie

Als u deze optie aan zet, wordt het dienstovergave scherm getoond aan het begin van iedere nieuwe simulatie. Als de optie uit staat, wordt het scherm niet getoond, maar de informatie kun u lezen in het kladblok na de start van het programma.

Toon opgestelde treinen bij start van simulatie

Als u deze optie aanzet worden er treinen geplaatst met en zonder personeel op bepaalde sporen. Dit heeft u nodig indien u realistisch wilt werken en de juiste locomotieven op de juiste plek wilt hebben.

Toon gedetailleerde gegevens over locatie van de treinen

In sommige gevallen tonen treinen gedetailleerde informatie als ze over wissels rijden. Voor sommige is deze informatie niet nodig en een meer algemene aanduiding wordt dan getoond.

Bij de start van een simulatie voer een "voorsimulatie" uit

Deze optie voert heel snel een simulatie uit, voordat de echte simulatie start. Dit genereert een paar treinen bij de start van de simulatie.

Tijd, in minuten, die de voorsimulatie zal duren

Na de voorsimulatie breng seinen in de automaat terug naar de basistoestand.

Als u deze optie aan zet, worden de geautomatiseerde seinen aan gezet en blijven aan. Als u deze optie uit zet, worden de geautomatiseerde seinen terug gezet naar de toestand van de laatste simulatie.

Dienstregeling

Laat expertenniveau's zien bij de start van de simulatie

Expertenniveau's zijn vooraf ingestelde mogelijkheden in de dienstregeling, waarbij bepaalde treinserie niet verschijnen. Als u dit aktiveert, worden minder treinen getoond. Dit maakt het makkelijker voor beginners.

Aantal aankomende treinen zichtbaar in treinenvenster

Sommige geluiden kunnen worden uitgezet of onderbroken door op de spatiebalk te drukken. Welke geluidjes kunt u hieronder kiezen:

Bovenleiding

Zelf bovenleidingsschakelaars bedienen

Deze optie geeft u de mogelijkheid zelf de verantwoording op te nemen voor het schakelen van de bovenleidingsgroepen. Gebruik het Schakelplan Bovenleiding!

Rijweginstellingen

Informatie tonen bij rijweginstelling

Het resultaat van een rijweginstelling wordt getoond in de statusbalk. Dit geeft u enige informatie over waarom een rijweg niet kan worden ingesteld.

Laat geluidje horen als een rijweg wordt ingesteld

Als de treindienstleider een rijweg instelt is er geen informatie of de instelling succes had of niet. Als deze optie aan is, hoort u een geluidje als de rijweginstelling succes had.

laat alleen geluidje horen als een rijweg wordt ingesteld zonder dat wissels omlopen

Als u deze optie aan zet, krijgt u een geluidje te horen als er een rijweg met succes wordt ingesteld, maar geen wissels moeten omlopen.

Overwegen sluiten direkt als rijweg ingesteld wordt

Overwegen sluiten normaal direkt als een trein in de aankondiging is, maar het sein rood blijft. Dit kan leiden tot overwegstoringen als je niet oplet. Als je deze optie uitzet, blijven de overwegen open, totdat het sein veilig kan komen. Er is dan minder kans dat een overweg in de storing raakt.

Maximum tijd (in seconden) voordat tableauknoppen worden gereset. Dit is de tijd die u heeft om twee knoppen te drukken wat als "tegelijkertijd" wordt gezien.

Bewaar toestand van geautomatiseerde seinen van de laatste sessie

Storingen bij geautomatiseerde seinen direct tonen

Als een geautomatiseerd sein in storing raakt omdat het geen rijweg kan instellen, hoort u een alarm na een bepaalde tijd. Voor grote tableaux is het soms moeilijk om het sein de vinden. Indien u deze optie inschakelt, wordt u een hulpvenster getoond als er een probleem optreedt.

Communicatie

Gesprekken worden niet als beëindigd getoond

Correct beëindigde gesprekken worden getoond met een visuele bevestiging. Als u deze optie aan zet, krijgt u die bevestiging niet.

Het telefoonpaneel wordt automatisch getoond en verborgen

Als het telefoonpaneel verborgen is, zal het automatisch getoond worden als er gebeld wordt. Als u op toets "C" drukt kunt u zelf het paneel tonen/verbergen.

Het communicatievenster wordt automatisch getoond en verborgen

Als het communicatievenster verborgen is, wordt het automatisch getoond als er gebeld wordt. Als u op toets "X" drukt kunt u zelf het venster tonen/verbergen.

Gebruik grijze kleuren voor communicatie venster

Als u deze optie aan zet, worden er grijze tinten gebruikt om regels in het communicatievenster te onderscheiden. Anders krijgt u kleuren.

Buurpost belt om vertragingen en volgorde wijzigingen mee te delen

Normaal bellen buurposten om te informeren over vertragingen en volgorde wijzigingen. Als u werkt met het treinenoverzicht kunt u dit uitschakelen.

Aanbieden van treinen is mogelijk als snelheid is 40km/h of minder

Als u deze optie aan zet, kunt u treinen die nog rijden aan buurposten aanbieden. Als u deze optie uit zet, moeten treinen die u wilt aanbieden stil staan! Attentie: er is altijd de kans dat een trein kan worden geweigerd!

Telefoonoproep rinkelt maar 1 keer

Als u deze optie aanzet, rinkelt de telefoonbel maar 1 keer. Nieuwe telefoonoproepen bellen ook maar 1 keer en herhalen zich niet.

Machinisten worden ongeduldig als ze lang moeten wachten

Machinisten worden ongeduldig als ze een langere periode onnodig voor een stoptonend sein moeten wachten (zeker als ze niet weten of kunnen zien waarom ze moeten wachten). Als u deze optie aanzet worden machinisten extra ongeduldig en maken het noodzakelijk om nog efficienter het treinverkeer te regelen.

De treindienstleider moet zelf de juiste Lastgeving VS kiezen bij rijden naar Verkeerd Spoor.

Indien deze optie uit is, kunnen Lastgevingen VS alleen maar uitgegeven worden volgend op de toestemming van de buurtreindienstleider. Als deze optie aan is, kunnen ook foute Lastgevingen worden uitgegeven, met alle gevolgen van dien.

Rangeeropdrachten

Machinist kan rangeeropdrachten uitvoeren terwijl hij nog op wissels staat

Als u deze optie aan zet, kunnen machinisten rangeeropdrachten uitvoeren als ze niet echt "vrij" staan op een spoor. Dit kan tot rijwegproblemen leiden die u dan moet oplossen. Als de optie uit staat, zullen machinisten alleen maar rangeeropdrachten uitvoeren als ze vrij staan op een spoor.

Personeelsopdrachten behoeven niet te worden bevestigd.

Als u personeel op de trein zet, of van de trein afhaalt moet u dit bevestigen. Als u deze optie aanzet, hoeft u dit niet te bevestigen.

Machinisten kunnen keeropdrachten negeren als ze moeten koppelen

In de simulatie zijn rangeeropdrachten een eenvoudig af te werken lijst. In werkelijkheid kunnen machinisten sommige opdrachten negeren in een situatie waarin ze niet meer nodig zijn. Als een machinist meerdere keeropdrachten heeft, gevolgd door een koppelopdracht, kan hij de keeropdrachten overslaan en direct koppelen als u deze optie aan zet

Verwijderen van voorbereide opdrachten hoeft niet bevestigd te worden

Als u voorbereide opdrachten verwijdert, moet u dit bevestigen. Als u deze optie aan zet, hoeft u het verwijderen van voorbereide opdrachten niet te bevestigen.

Assistent Treindienstleider

Het kan even duren voordat de rangeeropdrachten bij de machinist aankomen

Als u deze optie aan zet en indien u de opzichter de opdracht geeft om rangeeroprachten over te geven kan het soms een tijdje duren voordat de machinist de opdracht ook heeft.

Je collega kan de rangeeropdrachten aan de machinist geven voor u

Als u deze optie aan zet, kunt u een collega de opdracht geven de rangeeropdrachten naar de machinist te krijgen. Hij heeft daartoe telefoon en collega's buiten tot zijn beschikking. U heeft er dan geen omkijken naar!

Treinen moeten stilstaan voordat je collega rangeeropdrachten kan overdragen

Indien u uw collega delegeert om rangeeropdrachten over te geven, moet meestal de trein stilstaan. Als u deze optie uit zet, kunnen opdrachten aan machinisten worden overhandigd zelfs als de trein nog rijdt.

Treinnummer systeem (VKL/TNV)

VKL scherm toont gegevens als in 't echt

Normaal worden ONEVEN treinnummers links getoond, EVEN treinnummers rechts. Als deze optie uitgezet wordt, toont het de treinen gesorteerd naar rijrichting. (links voor treinen van links, rechts voor treinen van rechts)

VKL scherm kolommen wisselen

Als u deze optie aanzet, worden de kolommen van het VKL scherm gewisseld.

Wissel scherm automatisch als tableau wordt verschoven

Als u deze optie aanzet gaan de TVN/VKL schermen automatisch mee als u het tableau verschuift.

TNV scherm werkt als in 't echt

Het systeem kan in 't echt tot op zeker hoogte treinnummers automatisch veranderen op script basis. De rest moet de treindienstleider doen. Als u deze optie uitzet, probeert het systeem zoveel mogelijk het juiste treinnummer te tonen en hoeft u bijna niets te wijzigen.

Handige zaken voor beginners

toon licht schijn rondom lampjes voor betere zichtbaarheid (in simulatie

F2)

Deze optie is bedoeld om de zichtbaarheid van diverse lampjes en lichtjes te verbeteren. Ze krijgen een kleine schijn om het lampje heen.

als u deze optie aanzet, krijgt u knipperende eindknoppen, zodra u een beginknop heeft gedrukt. Dit helpt u bij het zoeken naar de eindknop.

Overwegen

Level crossings can go into an alarm state

If you activate this option, the level crossing CAN go into a defective state. If you leave it off, level crossings will never be a pain to you.

Level crossings can experience road vehicle crashes

If you activate this option, trains can get into problems if you don't issue the Written Order Level Crossing properly.

Full Barriers require manual locking

When checked, the dispatcher must close full barriers manually with BÜFT before the crossing is locked. (German Layouts only)

Use "classic" level crossing written order form

When checked, the older railroad crossing written order forms are used. When not checked, the modern forms are used. The two forms differ only visually, and gameplay is not affected when using one form over another.

Centrale Trein Aanwijzers (CTA-bakken)

PID units require management

The PID units are the machines at the platforms that display timetable information for passengers. When checked, this option requires that the information be updated. More fun, but also more work!

PID operating system can make sounds

The PID operating system makes a 'ticking' sound when operating. For some players this can be annoying, so it can be disabled by unchecking this option.

Mirror the location changes when managing PID

The PID system is managed using the PID operating system window, and is viewed using the PID window. When a location is selected in either of the two windows, the other window will automatically change so both screens match. When not checked the two windows are independent of each other.

CTA Units window is available during a simulation

The CTA Units window sometimes uses a significant amount of system resources. For people with less powerful machines, it is sometimes advantageous to disable the CTA Units window.

Taal

From the Current Language drop down list, select one of three languages. The language change takes effect when you exit the Settings dialog.

When the application starts for the very first time, you’ll be asked to confirm which language you wish to use.

Briefing

When starting a new simulation, you are presented with a briefing screen:

This is analogous to what you would receive from a dispatching colleague during a shift change. It outlines the important things you need to know to continue on dispatching, now that the previous dispatcher has gone home.

The above briefing gives a lot of information. The first three lines indicate that

• track 311 has two trains: loc 1700, at 5m; loc 1600 is at 30m
• track 505 is occupied by train Rs at 5m
• train 431734 is 430m on track 407

For tracks that have more than one train on them, we’re told where the trains are: the distance in metres is from the left edge of the track.

We’re reminded of what the date is, and when the sun rise/set times. This information is useful when we need to change the signal dimmer switch. The visibility is also good, as it is more than 1000m.

Het Kladblok

The notebook has the same information from the briefing. You can add your own text to the notebook by right‐clicking on text items in the Conversation window. To remove a note, simple click on it using the right mouse button. The notebook is very handy for remembering important things like how late a certain train is, or the order of trains that are out of sequence, as reported by your neighbouring dispatchers.

You can also write yourself messages – simply type in the text box and click the pencil icon to add to the list.

When you right‐click on a note to remove it, it gets sent to the ‘trash bin’ with a strikethrough. Your trash bin is not that large, so only delete things when you’re sure you won’t need them any longer.
